White Nut Cake Recipe

White Nut Cake Recipe:


1/2 Cup White Shortening
1 Cup Sugar
2 Cups Flour
3 teaspoons Baking Powder
3 Egg Whites
2/3 Cup Milk
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 Cup Crushed Nut Meat (pecans are my favorite)

Cream shortening and sugar until very creamy. Wisk or beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Sift baking powder and flour together three times. Add to first mixture alternately with milk. Add Vanilla and cut and fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites. Add the nut meat. Bake in two layers at 370 degree Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.

This is a recipe that my grandmother passed down and has continued to be a family favorite. You can replace the pecans with almonds, walnuts or some other fleshy nut or you can omit the nuts all together for a wonderful white cake.
