Wedding Cake With A Sense Of Humor
My daughter was marrying an outdoorsman who loves to fish, hunt and hike. She wanted the cake to reflect this. For their informal wedding she chose a square, two-layer cake with lemon filling for the top and strawberry for the bottom.
The frosting was a white buttercream with simple seashell scallops along the edge. This way there was nothing to clash with the whimsical topping: the bride dragging the groom (and holding his hunting rifle under one arm) away from a cluster of trees, a deer and a no hunting sign.
The cake was purchased from the bakery of an Albertson's Grocery store and fed 60. The cost was $210, not including the topping which, with trees, deer, etc. came to an additional $50.
