Two Tiered Heart Shaped Cake For Valentines Day
We made this two-tiered heart-shaped cake for Valentine's Day. We used two different sized Wilton heart-shaped pans that we bought from Hobby Lobby.
We used yellow boxed cake mixes. After baking the cakes, we allowed them to cool on a wire rack and then we crumb coated them. (Helpful hint: To crumb coat a cake you spread a thin layer of icing and then put it into the fridge for about an hour). This seals the crumbs into the icing so when you put on the final layer of icing it's basically crumb free.
We tinted some store-bought white icing with Wilton Pink Icing Color and iced the bottom layer. It came out a beautiful pink color. The smaller, top tier was crumb coated and iced in white.
After placing the white layer on top of the pink layer we began decorating it.
We used Valentine's colored M&Ms where the two tiers meet. Then we placed some Brach's Conversation Hearts on the top tier. Finally, we sprinkled some Wilton Confetti Hearts Sprinkles all around the base of the cake.
It came out beautiful. The grandkids loved it and wondered how grandmaw could make such a colorfu and cute cake. (Grandmaw is not a professional baker or cook)!
