Turtle Birthday Cake

Turtle Birthday Cake

I have a book of cut up cakes to make different animal shapes, and every year on their birthdays my young children enjoy picking a design and I use that as the theme for the party.

For my daughter's 3rd birthday, she picked a turtle. I used a metal mixing bowl for the body, two cupcakes cut in half for the feet, a cupcake for the neck, and a cupcake for the head. I used a Ritz cracker cut into a crescent shape and frosted green for the tail. The toenails are M&Ms cut in half, the eyes are whole M&Ms, and I freehanded the mouth and the shelltop design with frosting.

My daughter loved it! Her favorite part was picking out which piece of the turtle she got to eat on her birthday.
