Treasure Island Cake

My son's 7th birthday was our first ever "at home" party, he was heavily into pirates at that time and I looked at all the grocery store bakeries to find a pirate themed cake.

Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to find one so I decided to bake a huge Treasure Island cake from 3 chocolate cake mixes. It took forever to bake somewhat evenly especially since I had a temperature of 104*F and pneumonia so the preparations are somewhat of a blur. The cake was very good, tho and at the end of the party there wasn't too much of it left.

A week later I went into our local King Soopers and saw a beautiful cake shaped like a pirate ship. I still quite like the cake I made for my son's 7th birthday.
