Toy Bus Cake

Toy Bus Cake

This is a cake I made for my 1 year old nephew's birthday. I used his favorite toy bus as the inspiration and design. This is actually the very first time I've EVER played with fondant, to be honest. It was RIDICULOUSLY easy.

I made marshmallow fondant (marshmallows, powdered sugar, and a touch of Crisco) to keep it from sticking to my hands), and then rolled it out. After I carved the cake, and frosted it, the fondant was then laid on top.

Next I got busy cutting out all the pieces. I highly recommend MMF. It's VERY easy to work with (once you get the right consistency), and if you mess up, a bag of sugar and a bag of marshmallows isn't that expensive, so you don't feel bad throwing it away. (As opposed to the expensive rolled fondant you buy.)

The wheels needed to be perfectly round. They were really easy, I simply used Little Debbie donuts.

I used sticks to hold all the cakes together. (That's what the dent is on the top.) I stacked four cakes on top of each other and frosted in between them with butter cream and cream cheese frosting.

No formal training obviously here, but looked at a lot of Ace of Cakes shows and a couple of You Tube videos.
