Tiered Chocolate Wedding Cake

I designed my wedding cake together with a cake designer at a local bakery rather than choosing one of their set designs. I find the traditional white cake with white scroll work/designs on it boring, so I wanted something different. When I saw and tasted their chocolate fondant, I knew that would be the choice. The "designs" on the side are actually Japanese characters for words that are meaningful to both myself and my husband. He is very into Japanese culture, so I chose this element to pull him into the cake (although you can see the groom's cake in the background - it's a computer!).

The swag that is falling down the cake is actually designed to look like it is falling from cake to cake and the flowers on top are real flowers provided by my florist. Each of the cakes are different flavors (well, two are chocolate with cherry filling because that is my favorite). This allowed our family and friends to choose a flavor that they would enjoy rather than being limited to the flavors that we enjoy.

It was very important to me to have a unique cake that reflected both my and my husband's personality, which I feel we accomplished with this cake. We received many compliments, including from guests for the other weddings that were in other halls at our reception facility.

Editor's Note: These are fantastic, Erica. Thanks for sharing the picture and providing details. This will no doubt help future brides who are looking to create a unique wedding cake.
