My wedding cake was one of the easiest decisions we made about the wedding. I did a lot of Google searching for images of wedding cakes and realized that I really liked the clean lines of square cakes. My wedding style was updated traditional and the square cake blended perfectly into the plan.

We had it made at Victorian Pantry, a local bakeshop. They had the most experience with square cakes and were one of the few that didn't insist on using fondant. Don't get me wrong, fondant cakes are georgous but the fondant doesn't taste good and it usually ends up on the plate, we're buttercream people.

The cake was three tiers and served 150 people. It cost us a little under $400. Rather than having each tier a different flavor our baker incorporated our wedding colors, white & black, and made each tier one layer white cake and the other dark chocolate.

The cake was a very dense torte and the butercream was amazing. I gave the baker control once we agreed on flavor and basic style, I showed him a few photos of cakes I liked and let him design the cake. It was a great choice and I still love my cake, I wouldn't have changed anything about it.
