Thanks, But No Fruitcake For Me

I have never really liked fruitcakes, but upon reading the key ingredients listed in fruitcakes, I was astonished about some of the things that were suggested as “edible.” You see, we all know about nuts, cherries, pineapple and of course, the cake part, but have you ever heard of “citron?” It is the dried skin or peel of the citron fruit that is placed in traditional fruitcakes. Also, it is not uncommon for other fruit rinds to be placed in the traditional fruitcake.

In learning this, I have to ask myself, “If I would not normally eat something by itself any other time of year, why would a holiday fruitcake influence my decision now?” So I will politely pass on any fruitcake that ever comes my way. Fortunately, my family and friends already know my expressed views on this matter. The lady with the samples at the grocery store, well, that is another story.

Whether or not you enjoy fruitcake, once thing we can all agree on is that fruitcake does bring people together, at least opinion-wise, during this time of year.
