Survivor Birthday Cake
I made this cake for my son's 6th birthday which had a Survivor theme. We are all big fans of the show and watch it together as a family. For the party itself, I planned several "Survivor" themed games and wanted a simple cake but one that the kids would really like.
For the cake, I made just a simple sheet cake and used pre-made icing. I have access to an airbrush machine, so that is what I used but it can just as easily be done without using supplies you can find in any grocery store.
Using a white/creme color, frost the entire cake, including the sides. Then either with chocolate/vanilla icing or food coloring, add the brown colored "dirt" around the campfire. You could also use graham cracker or chocolate cookie crumbs as dirt instead. I used green icing and made a simple leaf border on the top and a basis border on the bottom, but you can do whatever appeals to you most.
For the campfire "seats" I used Rolos, 1 for each of the kids at the party. The campfire and torches were made from broken pretzel rods and topped with red icing from the tubes you can buy at the store.
I added the birthday message and then topped the cake with some edible glitter (my son loves that stuff) for the final touch.
The cake went over HUGE with both the kids and the parents. It was a really easy cake to put together, but had an impressive effect. His party was the talk of the school for WEEKS and even now, one year later, I still get compliments about what an awesome cake and party it was.
