Suprise Millenium Falcon Cake

After the usual round of "What Kind of Cake This Year", my 11 year old son really wanted some sort of Star Wars cake. I played with the idea with him and told him I would do a straight cake and put figures on it. He okayed the idea, but you could tell it sounded lame. After he went to bed, I went about setting this up.

I made it with red velvet cake and cream cheese dressing. It's kinda a tradition to come up with a unique cake, so I didn't use a special pan, but two big sheets. I cut out pieces to make all the correct shapes to make up the different parts and "glued" them all together with frosting. 4 colors of frosting later and some cinnamon to make it look "used", I used some black and white striped candles to make the laser turrents on top.

In the end, I didn't have the heart to keep it from him until we hit the place with the pizza and rat, as telling him that we'd just have to pick up something from the store on the way just seemed cruel. I unveiled it before we left and he was VERY excited that I took all night to put it together. It went over very well with all the guests too. In fact, my brother in law wants me to make him an X-Wing cake for his 25th! Piece of cake!
