Spongebob Squarepants Cake

My daughter was in love my Spongebob, watched him all the time, so I wanted to make her birthday special with a Spongebob cake. My daughter turned 3, with her Spongebob party.

No special pan was used. I refused to pay $20+ for a Spongebob cake pan, so I used simple pans I've had for awhile. I used 2 medium sized rectangle pans for his square body, and two small rectangle pans, which I cut each 4 times. 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 hat. The leftovers I just set aside.

I had to use food coloring to make the yellow and red icing, then used chocolate for the brown. It was pretty simple. Here's a picture of it.

Oh for goodness' sake calm down people, it was a cake for a 3 year old. Give a 3 year old a yellow piece of paper and it can become spongebob in their eyes. I thought this cake looked awesome, not in a super-realistic way but in an a-kids-gonna-love-it way. Look at it through the eyes of the child she made it for. They woulda loved it.

Besides, when a cake *is* fully realistic, little kids can sometimes either freak out at the thought of cutting it to pieces. To them it can seem like a toy, a big figurine or something that they don't want to see chopped up. So it makes sense to simplify the design so that such a young child will see that it is just a cake and not the character themselves.

It aint all about making it look exact, much as all those Cake Shows would have you believe. It's a real cake by a real person and i think she should be commended on her effort.

Ps i saved the picture because of how much i loved it. I dunno if that's a breach of protocol or anything else, but i loved it so much i couldn't resist.

you can not seriously be pleased with this cake...enough to put it on show for all to see? As someone else said, you should have rented the cake tin.
Try harder next time, sorry.

That is the worst cake that I have ever, EVER seen. Did your 3-year-old decorate it herself?
