Sponge Bob Squarepants Cake

Sponge Bob Squarepants Cake

I made this cake for my youngest daughter's 5th birthday, in March 2009. She LOVES Spongebob! This was only the 2nd speacality cake that I had ever made. It is completely homemade... from the cake batter to the icing (under the fondant) to the fondant, and all the body parts. The entire cake is all eatable.

The cake is a basic cake recipe (flour, sugar, lard, milk, eggs, and Strawberry flavoring.)

The icing is a buttercream icing recipe (powered sugar, lard, butter, vanilla, milk, and salt)

The fondant is ALL Banana flavored! (marhmallow fluff, powered sugar, CLEAR Banana flavoring, and Wiltons icing colors.)

It takes appro. 2-3 days to make. (because of making and forming the fondant and allowing it to dry.)

I actually was watching Spongebob on TV while making this.... to get all the details of him. Overall I was very satisfied with the cake, my daughter LOVED it, she took some of it to church and shared it with all of her Sunday School class!

I am currently attemting to make a Cessna airplane cake for my pastor's son's graduation from aviation school, so keep a watch out for my next cake.

Editor's Note: Thanks, Tracy. You have made an excellent contribution to the site that will help other moms drum up the courage to make a cake like this for their son or daughter.

Looking forward to seeing how the Cessna cake comes out!
