Puppy Dog Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my son's first birthday. He really likes dogs and cats so I decided to go with a puppy dog theme for the party.

I had made cakes using special shaped pans before, but I felt like trying something new. I also wanted to keep it pretty simple. I used two cake mixes and baked them in two round pans and a rectangular pan. The two round cakes become the head and the body. The rectangular cake I used to cut out ears, paws, etc. I also used a couple twinkies for the nose.

I iced the cake in white and added brown spots with chocolate icing and also used that for ears, nose, eyes. I used pull apart licorice for the tongue.
