It was my Mom's 60th Birthday and I wanted to make it big and really cool. She always appreciates things that come from your heart and hands more than she does physical items.
I used chocolate candies for the polka dots and Froot by the foot to make the ribbon.
I always apply a "crumb layer of icing to the cake first. I do this using a plastic freezer bag with a small piece of the corner cut off. This makes it easier to lay the icing on the cake instead of smearing it onto the cake with a knife. The smear is what creates the crumbs.
