Polka Dot Birthday Cake

The cake was inspired by my daughters polka dot dress she wore for her moving up ceremony. Its a beautiful dress I bought from Macys. She loved that dress so much she said she wanted a polka dot cake for her 4th birthday party at school. I had no idea what to do, I looked around and no one sold a polka dot cake. I called a bakery called Buttercooky but they wanted an arm & leg. So I improvised.
I baked 2 box cakes a day before (Betty Crocker)bought fondant(Wiltons) from Michaels Craft Store & food coloring. My mom had cookie cutters. So I rolled out fondant (5lbs) seperated pieces for different colors & colored them. Covered the cake & then pasted the circles on with water.
The kids loved the way it looked but hated the taste. They only ate the cake. My daughter was happy & loved that everybody said her cake was beautiful. And for a first time fondant user, I was proud of myself.
