Pirate Ship Birthday Cake

Pirate Ship Birthday Cake

My son wanted a pirate theme for his 5th birthday and so I went searching for info about pirate ship cakes on the Internet. I found many ideas and put a bunch of them together, mostly an idea from a Disney Family website that had easy instructions, and created my cake.

I used chocolate cake and chocolate icing and made two regular round cake pan sized cakes. Then I cut the cakes in half placing the rounded side on the bottom. The cakes make a nice boat shape but you need lots of icing to anchor them.

As you can see by the picture there are candy malt balls on top as cannon balls an root beer barrel candies as barrels on the top. We used our own pirate toys to put on top and then we made sails from bamboo skewers and white paper. This cake was a lot of fun to make with my son.

Editor's note: That's a great cake Tricia! Our readers are going to love it and hopefully, some other boys will get their moms to make one for them.
