Our Fruitcake Tradition

by Robert
(Shelton, CT)

Around our house the lowly fruitcake is received with great anticipation! Many years ago, when our two boys were very young, my wife decided to make a fruitcake. She got the boys involved with adding the fruit and mixing the dough, adding the rum, and all that stuff.

Over the years it has become something of a tradition that serves as a focal point for our family's Christmas. We still make quite a production out of buying the fruit and the booze and even though one of our boys is on his own now, telephone conversations invariably touch on the status of this year's fruitcake and how it will taste.
