Our Experiment With Fruit Cake

It was our first Christmas after marriage and we thought of surprising my parents with a fruit cake. Even though I am not a great baker I agreed to my husband's suggestions and we began the process.

It started quite well and I enjoyed mixing in all the fruit even though it was hard work. Finally it was over and we placed it in the oven to bake.

My husband was very enthusiastic about the whole thing. I'm not sure what went wrong, but the cake did not turn out well. It was dry and flat and hard. Still we took it to our parents' place. They were very happy to see it that somehow they managed to eat 2 slices. It was so sweet of them that it is one of my most cherished memories.
