Nerds Birthday Cake

A Nerdy birthday! I have "Grandmas Secret Pound Cake Recipe" so we made the cake using all fresh ingredients. You can't have the secret recipe so I suggest that you buy a yellow cake mix instead. Then I made lemon drizzle frosting using a cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1 teaspoon of lemon extract. I drizzled that all over the cake. I added yellow food coloring and then used some piping bags and made some designs. Of course, I had to write Megan's name somewhere. I knew I would be using the Nerds candy so I opted to write her name in frosting beside the cake on the cake plate. Next came the nerds. They were scattered everywhere.

This is a joke cake for us. Megan likes Nerds so her daddy has always (in a loving way) called her "the little nerd". I decided to put the box in the middle for an added touch. This is a simple and easy cake but it is so pretty and it is special because we took something our daughter loved and we used something personal to make a nice cake that we all enjoyed! I find that it is really important to use a theme to make your cake personal. It makes the birthday girl or boy feel special.
