Monkey Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my son's first birthday party. His favorite stuffed toy is a monkey, and it looks just like his cake! I had found a picture of monkey cupcakes done in a similar fashion, and wanted to make a small cake, just for the baby to eat.

It was very easy, and didn't require special equipment. I used a round cake pan and a cupcake pan to make white cake. I frosted the cake with cream-cheese icing, tinted with some cocoa powder. I used Nilla Wafer cookies for the monkey's mouth and ears, and just a little bit of colored icing for his mouth and eyes. Another option could be making this cake with banana cake and chocolate frosting.

The baby loved his monkey cake, and of course, stuck his face right into the cake!
