Modern Wedding Cake

We chose this cake for several reasons, including the fact that our wedding was non-traditional. We had the wedding and reception at the Knoxville Museum of Art, which is full of modernist styling, and abstract sculptures. We didn't want the cake to look too old fashioned, so we accented the tiered cake with the red and bouquet of fresh, colorful roses on top. We also had a grooms cake shaped like a baseball mitt and a baseball diamond, to add a little whimsy to the festivities.

A total of approximately $450.00 was spent on the two cakes combined. I think adding a bright accent color, such as the red, which was also the color of my bridemaids dresses and my shoes, was a great idea. This cake served approximately 200 people, with leftovers to spare.
