Thank you! NEW

Wow - what a lovely comment! Thanks, you've made my day!

I used Maisy for the invitations, decorations and the cake, but didn't have other Maisy foods at the party, as such. I just had simple, morning tea fare and aimed to make it fun and colourful, which I thought was kind of Maisy-esque, eg: fruit skewers (rockmelon, strawberries, pineapple); little mixed sandwiches (egg and lettuce/ creamy chicken); freckle lollies; juice punch; etc.

For decorations I ended up buying a Maisy activity book and cutting out pictures which I stuck on to cardboard, hole-punched and strung up about the house. Lots of bright curling ribbon and balloons.

I hope this answers your question?

The best Maisy cake I have seen. Well done. What other Maisy things did you have at the morning tea?

So sorry I missed the frosting query... yes, I just used ordinary unsalted butter to make the icing. It pales as you whip it up. I had actually wanted to get more intense colour in my icing, but didn't have proper cake decorating colours and didn't know they were available to the public then).

On the girly question - this was made for my son for his second birthday, too. I think you just go with whatever your child loves the most - whether your son loves Dorothy the Dinosaur, Upsy Daisy or Maisy; or your daughter loves Captain Feathersword and Bob the Builder - who cares? As long as your child loves it, you've done the right thing. There's plenty of time when they're older to try to guide them towards something that you think might be more gender-specific, if you think it's necessary, but at two, they're really still babes, aren't they? Good luck deciding!

I wonder

Well done on a fabulous cake. My 22 month old boy loves Maisy. I would like a Maisy theme for his birthday but wonder if it is too 'girlie'. Any thoughts???

Thanks for all the nice comments! No - I didn't ice it frozen, but that could be a great idea. I iced the cake when it was a day old, as I have read that helps with the crumbing issue, but I did find I had to ice it thickly in one go (ie: not go back over it too much to avoid the crumbs). Since then, I have heard people sometimes do an intial layer of frosting/icing, then the proper outer layer, for this very reason. But the frozen idea sounds good, too. Best of luck!

Fantastic I want to make this for my daughter's birthday and you made it look superb. Did you ice the cake frozen? as I have heard sponge is quite hard to ice as the top layer comes off as you try to spread the icing?? true??
