How To Make Fruitcake Delicious
The first fruitcake I ever ate was delicious! I was about five years old and living in a cabin in the woods in the Northwest. My mother didn’t bake much, as it was so difficult to get the old wood-fired cook stove to the right temperature! We hiked up to the nearest neighbor’s house a few days before Christmas through about three feet of snow! Our neighbor made my sister and me cups of hot chocolate and gave us each a piece of fruitcake that his mother, who was born in Germany, had sent for the holidays. I thought each bite was fascinatingly different than the last. I especially loved the candied pineapple bits and nuts. I am not sure if it was the timing of the situation or if it was the cake itself, but I’ve never had a good fruitcake since!
