Homemade Chocolate Cake

My favorite chocolate cake recipe is one from scratch -- you know, just flour, sugar, cocoa, etc. But it feels so special to know that the cake you made is entirely from you. It makes a very heavy feeling cake, but it doesn't taste like it. It really doesn't take much longer than cake from a box either, you only have to gather a few more ingredients, and it all goes in the same mixer, the same cake pan, and the same oven.

It is definitely worth it to try cake from scratch. All of my yellow cakes have been from a box, which is nice and easy. All you have to do is add vegetable oil and eggs to the powdered mix, then put it in the pan and bake.

This is a very nice choice for when you are in a hurry, or if you aren't sure if everyone can eat chocolate. I have not made cake mix cookies -- but it sure sounds yummy. I bet they would be a wonderful addition at the holidays. I can just see them decorated in lots of beautiful colors with a basic frosting made with shortening and powdered sugar!
