Hello Kitty Birthday Cake

Hello Kitty Birthday Cake

I was asked to make a special birthday cake, a pink heart with a picture of Hello Kitty on the top. I made two square sponges, when cooled I cut a heart shape out of both sponges. Then I sandwiched them together with butter cream and jam.

Next to make Hello Kitty. From the many pictures available I found the one I like best. I cut out the basic shape then marked the outlines with a sharp knife point. Next I painted in all the features using food colouring. I added little sugar balls on to the skirt for finishing touches. I used ready rolled icing and covered the top of the cake in pink and the sides in white, sticking the icing to the cake with warmed apricot jam. When this was all is place I made up a quantity of royal icing coloured pale pink and piped stars around the top and bottom of the cake. The finishing touches were a bright pink and white spotted ribbon and some pink dragees around the sides.

I was really pleased with the finished cake and so was Abi! A great hit for her fifth birthday.
