Thanks, Isobel for your inquiry! I used a 12" round cake pan for one box cake mix. When cooled, cut in half. You need to stand the halves on the cut side right next to each other. Buttercream between them. So what you have are two 1/2 rounds standing upright to make the hamster body. I did shape the cakes by rounding out the figure with a knife. Buttercream the whole thing. You want to put a mound of buttercream at one end for the head. Using the grass tip, make the fur starting at the bottom and working your way up. Use other tips for the eyes, nose, ears, nubby tail and paws. You can put anything you want as the 'snack'. The hair took the longest and just make sure you have enough buttercream! Hope you have fun!!

This is cool! by: Tracy B.
This is a very cute cake! I am just discovering the trill of designing cakes. (I have a spongebob cake on this site.) I have never took any classes, so I always have to use pictures for ideas, and this is an excellent one!!!

Tip for hamster cake by: PBJ
Thank you for all the kind comments! The tip I used was the "grass" tip... the tip with multiple holes in it. I use it a lot for animal cakes, or to do hair on people. All the cakes on this site are interesting, and I enjoy seeing what other artists come up with!

Awesome! by: Pandora524
My son, too, loves his hamster passionately, and wants a hamster cake for his birthday. This was incredibly well-done. I admire your creativity. The graham cracker was a perfect finishing touch.
