Halloween Spider Web Cake
I made this cake for my girlfriend's 22nd birthday. Her birthday is the day before Halloween and Halloween is her favorite holiday so I decided to use orange and black, and decorate it with a spiderweb made of icing, a marzipan spider, and white chocolate ghost and cat shapes. (The picture was taken before the white chocolate shapes were added to the cake)
I found the marzipan a little hard to work with so I molded a rice crispy treat into two balls for the spider shape, then molded the marzipan around the rice crispy treat. I also used food coloring and black icing to color the marzipan a grayish color for the spider. I used a tooth pick to hold together the two halves of the spider, and used red pull and peel twizzlers (pulled apart) for the spider's legs.
I also made a pumpkin with the marzipan. I added the orange icing to give it an orange color. I shaved a chocolate candy bar to put bits around the spiderweb, and to add to the sides of the cake.
