Fondant Flower Cake

Fondant Flower Cake

Fondant Flower Cake

This was my first attempt at using fondant. I made a marble cake layered with chocolate ganache and covered in vanilla butter cream. Then I made my own fondant - the pre-made stuff is just plain gross - and used a Wilton imprint mat to create the Happy Birthday messages. The flowers were the finishing touch along with adding purple sprinkles into one of the Happy Birthday imprints. A small amount of vegetable oil kept the sprinkles in place.

Editor's Note: That's a very nice cake, Robyn. Thanks for the tip about the Wilton imprint mat. Also, I agree with you 100% about the taste of pre-made fondant!
