Emergency Birthday Cake

My wonderful sister usually bakes all the birthday or special occasion cakes for my two kids, but when my son's latest birthday came up, we were (for the first time) living too far away for her to help. We were also planning a move back to Kansas, from Washington, and I, sadly, had not planned ahead very well. I also didn't have very much money to spend and my son wanted to take treats to daycare for his birthday as well.

So, I decided to make an all-in-one birthday cake and brownies for daycare creation. I used a simply brownie recipe to make brownies in one of those disposable aluminum pans with a lid. Then, I frosted it with ready-made chocolate cake frosting. It came with sprinkles so I added those too. Finally, I used my one-color of icing to write the message. It wasn't too fancy, but it worked in a pinch and his school mates were thrilled. Just goes to show, sometimes all the bells and whistles aren't necessary to please the kids!
