Dragon Mountain Cake
This was for my son's 6th birthday. For his dragon-themed party he wanted a dragon on his cake that he could eat, so I went searching for ideas on the internet and found this one.
There are 3 layers of devil's food cake with chocolate icing in between. The cakes are graduated sizes to help with the mountain effect. After cutting out the rockslide area, I iced the entire cake with green buttercream icing, and since it's supposed to be grassy it doesn't have to be smooth.
I then placed all the "rocks" (Goobers, choc-covered raisins, Milk Duds, Sno-Caps... & Hershey Eggs in the nest). I used various tips and colors to pipe on grass, flowers and vines all over with buttercream icing.
The dragon, which actually took the most time, is made of store-bought candy clay that I molded and then I used red icing spray to tint the body and wing edges.
It was enjoyed by the birthday boy and all in attendance!
