Dinosaur Cake
My sister-in-law always loved dinosaurs growing up and has continued to use the theme with my nephew. We had dino-cake, dino-toys and dino-wrapping paper. The cake was for a first birthday.
No special pans were used. She baked regular "cake-mix" cakes in standard sized baking pans. The cakes were stacked and carved into the final shape. The neck and tail were formed from Rice Krispie Treats made without butter (just marshmallows and Rice Krispies). A wooden dowel was used to add support to the neck and head.
The whole cake was made from easily purchased ingredients within a very reasonable budget. All that is required is a willingness to try and experiment with what works.
The cake was frosted with white cream cheese icing which was dyed green with food coloring. The spots on the back are Junior Mints placed on top of the icing. The eyes were made by slicing large marshmallow and adding a green jelly-bean.
