Cupcake Birthday Cake

This is a favourite for 'big kids' who still love their cupcakes-- in this case, a 17 year old. They still loved the occasional batch of cupcakes, so for this birthday I thought, "Instead of lots of little cupcakes, how about one big cupcake that can be shared by all?"

This cake is made using a Wilton Giant Cupcake tin-- I'm not quite sure how you would manage the shape otherwise without some serious cutting and arranging. The tin makes it a breeze to bake-- just see if you can get it on sale as they can run a little expensive.

If you do decide to invest in the pan, the recipe comes with it- it takes a little tinkering to get just the right amount of batter- and don't underestimate your frosting needs-- as you can see from the photo, we ended up a little short. But it's a blast to decorate and I'd recommend it to anyone who has that little bit of extra time to devote to making the perfect cupcake'.
