Crazy Bug Cake

by CMB
(Utah)

My oldest daughter was having a backyard sleepover for her 13th birthday and wanted a bug theme. So I made a caterpillar cake for her party. I used a bundt cake pan, cut the cake in half, and turned one half of the cake so it made a wavy shape. Then I decorated it. I frosted it yellow, gave it peppermint eyes and used Mike and Ike candies for the caterpillar feet. We used licorice for the antennae.

This cake was so popular that I repeated the theme for a church social. The event was in February so I turned it into "The Love Bug." I frosted the cake pink and used red candies for the eyes and red candies for the feet. We also used red life savers for decorations. This time we used a jelly doughnut for the bug's head and frosted it pink. We won first prize!
