Chocolate Sheath Cake Recipe


2 cups sifted flour
2 cups sugar
2 sticks oleo or butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 cup water
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour, sugar; sift into large mixing bowl. Heat shortening, cocoa, water to rapid boil; pour over flour-sugar mixture; beat well. Add other ingredients; mix well. Bake in greased & floured 16x11x1” pan, 20 minutes, 400 degrees F.

Cover with icing to a depth of at least ¼” while still in pan. Serve chilled.

Icing (start prep 5 minutes before cake is done):

1 stick oleo
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
6 tbsp. milk
4 tbsp. cocoa

Heat oleo, cocoa and milk to boil, stirring constantly. Pour over sugar, vanilla, beat until thick. Spread over hot cake.
