Chocolate Cake With Vanilla Icing
My son loves chocolate cake (what kid doesn't?), so I decided to give him a little surprise on his second birthday. I made the inside chocolate and frosted the outside with vanilla butter cream icing. He loved it! The cake was moist and delicious!
I used Ina Garten's "Beatty's Chocolate Cake" recipe, with the icing recipe that goes with it. The only thing I did differently was to omit the steps that make the butter cream icing chocolate flavored.
It's a very easy cake to make, no special pans are required. Do be sure to either use really deep pans, or modify the recipe for high altitude, even if you don't live in high altitude. For some reason the cakes will boil over if you don't modify it. Be sure that if you refrigerate this cake, take it out 30 minutes before cutting it, otherwise the icing will be hardened.
