Tools For Decorating Cakes
This video is about two-and-a-half minutes long and features Linda Leon. She shows the set of icing tips she used when
she was a professional cake decorator.
She highlights the rose tip, which can also be used to make other types of
icing flowers, a writer's tip, so that the cake decorator can put greetings on
the cake, a border tip and a leaf tip. She shows two stainless steel
spatulas, which are needed to get the icing on the cake. The video also
shows a rose nail as well as a coupler and a coupler screw, which are assembled
and put inside a decorator's bag to pipe on the icing. The last tool she
shows is a spinning wheel, or spinner, as she calls it, to use when you are
icing the cake.
While this is one of the most basic cake decorating videos we have seen, it will
probably be helpful for the novice cake
Fun With Fondant
The name of the video is called "Cake Decorating: Fun with
Fondant" and it is about decorating a chocolate cake. One of the
interesting parts at 0:39 was when she said she gets to be creative and likes to
create sketches of the cakes before she makes them. Sometimes she creates
designs in her head too. At 1:35, she describes the fondant as Play Dough
because you can do just about anything with it. At 2:31, she takes the rolled
fondant and places it over the cake. I think that’s interesting because I
never knew that was used to make those kinds of cakes. You can create all kinds
of cool colorful decorations with it too such as dots, flowers, strips,
This video could be helpful for someone who wants to decorate a cake because
it is very detailed, but is still simple enough to be understood easily. Most of
the time, I am not able to keep up and feel that the person showing me how to
decorate my cake is too fast and does not try keep at a slow, steady pace. These
kinds of cakes look hard to do, but once you watch this video, you'll see that
it is not that difficult at all.
