Butterfly Birthday Cake

Emily was actually turning 18 and going away for college the next day. So my husband and I wrote "We will miss you" because we knew her friends had already made her another cake that said happy birthday.

I went to culinary school but am by no means a pastry chef. I think this cake is still pretty. I used two 12' round cake pans. I used white icing and piped the white icing (with some purple dye around the edges. I got the butterflies at a local party shop. I feel the cake was very age appropriate.
