Birthday Cake With Ribbons
I made this cake when my daughter turned 12. It is a tricky year for a girl and coming up with a theme for the cake decorating was a challenge! But I came up with this ribbon cake idea and it turned out really well. All the kids were very enchanted with it. I baked a delicious yellow cake and added to it "ribbons" of pink by coloring about 1/4 of the batter pink. After pouring the regular cake batter into two prepared pans, I plopped spoonfuls of the pink batter over the top and using a knife, I pulled through to make a decorative design in the cake batter. It turned out really well. I think next time I would try to flavor the different colors - strawberry & lemonade!
After it was all baked, and cooled, I made homemade buttercream frosting and covered the whole cake.
Then I used fruit rolls called Fruit by the Foot to make the ribbon on top. I made smaller loops in the middle to resemble a bow on a package. My daughter and her friends loved it!
