Beach Party Cake

I saw the picture on the front of a magazine and thought it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen, so I made it for my friend's 21st birthday party.

I liked that it didn't require a special pan, just an ordinary 9" round. I made 2 9" round cakes and frosted them with white icing that I dyed blue. I sprinkled vanilla cookie crumbs over the top to look like sand and made a lake using blue Jello prepared with half the water called for on the box. I made palm trees out of breadsticks and used melting chocolate for the leaves. I used Teddy Grahams for the little "people" on the beach and decorated them with icing. Finally, I put Goldfish crackers and fruit leather around the outside to look like the underwater scene.

He absolutely loved it!
