Aidan Monkey Cake

I choose the monkey shape because my husband always calls our son a monkey. The cake was for my son's first birthday. I did not use a special pan, it's a single layer round cake with two cup cakes for the ears. I did have to trim a half moon shape off of each ear to make them sit right.

I used my grandmother's butter cake recipe. An old family favorite, never fail type cake. It was iced with buttercream frosting, looking back I should have used chocolate to do the brown because it really isn't as brown as I would have liked.
