A Family Wedding Cake

We wanted something simple but elegant. And adding the flowers gave it a nice touch. The cake was made by my husband's mother, even though she had never made a weeding cake.

The cake was about 2 feet tall with a total of 3 tiers, and served about 50 people. It cost her about $50 to make, not including the $25 cake toper or the flowers.

We let my mother-in-law make it as our wedding gift because we did not like many of the options at most places that make weeding cakes. I wanted a simple cake, white with just a little color. My husband wanted a plain yellow cake, no special filling, and icing that wasn't store bought sweet. I was really skeptical about letting her make it, but the results were great.
