3D Thomas The Tank Engine Cake

3D Thomas The Tank Engine Cake

3D Thomas The Tank Engine Cake

I was challenged with a Thomas the Tank Engine 3D cake for my great nephew's first birthday.

I don't make many cakes, but I had a good go and that's what counts.

I did buy an ice fountain cake firework which the children enjoyed enormously. I had placed it in the funnel so it looked like the engine was shooting out sparks!

I made a base sponge and covered it in roll out fondant icing, then made another the same size to cut up for the engine. The round front part was cut off a swiss roll.

Thomas' face was made a few days in advance to allow it to dry out.

Editor's Note: That's a lovely cake, Sandra. Thanks for sending in the picture and giving details about how you made the cake. It must have been a great birthday and the children who were old enough might remember the "cake with sparks coming out of it" for all their lives!
